Divorce is often experienced as a traumatic event that challenges the meaning, safety, and predictability of life in significant ways.  Those directly in its wake face an onslaught of obstacles and intense emotions, during a time when all that is familiar feels threatened by drastic changes and unknowns.  As with any other traumatic event, divorcing individuals and their families need adequate support to lesson the impact.
